Abstract
L’auteur retrace différentes conceptions du jihad et ses usages politiques au fil de l’histoire musulmane. Il montre ainsi l’importance de mettre en contexte les diverses interprétations du jihad et actions menées en son nom. Il faut éviter l’écueil de traiter du jihad dans une vision essentialiste de l’islam qui lui impute une tendance intrinsèque et absolue vers la violence sacralisée et plutôt se questionner sur les enjeux politiques et sociaux qui sous-tendent ses diverses interprétations.
