Le Réseau ouest et centre africain de recherche en éducation (Rocaré) fait de la promotion de la recherche qualitative son cheval de bataille par le biais de son Programme de petites subventions de recherche en éducation qui finance chaque année une trentaine de projets de recherche portés par des étudiants avancés ou de jeunes chercheurs africains. À cet effet, les participants à ce programme bénéficient d’une formation en méthodologie de la recherche et en écriture scientifique axée sur le recours au qualitatif. Cet article présente les résultats de l’analyse des pratiques en recherche qualitative, et plus spécifiquement les méthodes de production, de présentation et d’analyse des données mises en oeuvre par les chercheurs du Rocaré. L’analyse, effectuée à partir de 96 rapports de recherche produits par les lauréats des subventions, met en lumière la spécificité contextuelle, en l’occurrence les limites des usages du qualitatif imputables à une transaction entre l’approche qualitative et quantitative dans la mesure où la première constitue une innovation.
