Abstract
A 33-year-old man was admitted to the emergency department with a rapid onset of left flank pain. On examination, he had a temperature of 38.2C and tenderness in the left lower quadrant with muscle guarding. His leukocyte count and C-reactive protein were moderately elevated. Computed tomography of the abdomen (Figure A diagnosis of epiploic appendagitis was made. He was given a one-week course of ibuprofen, and recovered completely. He had no recurrence of the pain during two years of follow-up.
