Cet ouvrage appartient au genre des outils mis à la disposition des médiévistes pour aborder, lire, transcrire, interpréter les documents de leur discipline. Sous le titre classique de « sciences auxiliaires », le manuel se propose toutefois de réordonner ce que d’aucuns appellent encore les sciences de l’érudition autour de trois blocs qui s’entendent comme autant d’opérations intellectuelles : « lire et écrire » (paléographie, édition, supports, codicologie et incunablologie, inscriptions)...
