Abstract
The Food Safety Performance World Ranking Initiative's investigation into Consumer Affairs considers one outcome and four policies such as rates of inspections, food safety education, labeling and indications of allergens, and access to public health information. Denmark raised its rate of inspection grade, France improved its foodborne illness numbers, and both increased their grades in two categories: labeling and indications of allergens and access to public health information. Measurement of the ease of access to public health information was based on a holistic evaluation of the information provided by national level governments. Like food safety education programs, regulations governing the labeling and indications of allergens have become the domain of the European Union as opposed to its member nations. In the Consumer Affairs ranking, Canada's performance is respectable. In its responses to food safety crises, the food industry would benefit from statutory regulations that require traceability from farm to plate.
