Abstract
L'imposant catalogue des gravures de Massimo Cavalli qui recense ses sept cent soixante-six œuvres paraît au moment où l'artiste fête ses quatre-vingt-cinq ans.Curieusement, alors qu'il est célébré de Milan à Lugano, où il travaille, il est resté, sa modestie aidant, peu connu en France, alors qu'il est francophone, francophile et revendique sa parenté avec les mouvements français de l'après-guerre : il fut admiré par Bazaine et est lui-même un grand admirateur de Fautrier, de Geneviève Asse, d'Olivier Debré et des autres artistes français de cette génération.Son succès en Suisse et en Italie n'a pas passé ces frontières, alors qu'il affiche cinquante expositions monographiques dans son pays, en Italie, en Allemagne, au Japon et aux États-Unis et qu'il a participé à plusieurs centaines d'expositions collectives.
