Abstract
Des intervenants sociaux exposent ici les facteurs facilitants, les difficultés et les stratégies qui marquent l’intégration des minorités de la « nouvelle immigration » non européenne. Par delà une diversité de perspectives et de vécus, on relève des problématiques communes. Le premier défi des nouveaux venus est la redéfinition de l’identité et des relations sociales dans un nouveau contexte, beaucoup plus individualiste. Chez les minorités établies au pays depuis plus longtemps (noires, en particulier), c’est l’accès égal aux ressources et au pouvoir qui pose d’abord problème : la couleur demeure une barrière malgré l’atténuation des distances culturelles. Enfin, le profil identitaire se transforme d’une génération à l’autre, car les modèles panaméricains et des identités plus larges (de culture ou de couleur) rapprochent les jeunes de diverses origines.
