It is based on peer-reviewed research that shows that exposure to light and melatonin can shift your body clock to reduce the effects of jet lag. The web site is very simple to navigate. Essentially, one enters in one’s travel details (destination, departure, and arrival) and one’s normal sleeping schedule. The web site then produces a schedule for when to sleep, when to take melatonin, and when to increase exposure to light. This web site can be useful for both patients and medical providers. It was created by Jay Olson, M.Sc., who is completing a doctoral degree at McGill University. The site has been recommended by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and has been featured in Scientific American. With the increasing travel involved in sports, athletes often struggle with jet lag. A simple search can help one find information on nearly any medical condition. Some specifically interesting types of handouts are the general home exercise programs for common orthopedic complaints. These include pictures and descriptions of the exercises and stretches to do. Providing a handout for patients to reference after discussing a new medical diagnosis can assist in information retention and better health literacy. This is a valuable source of patient information that anyone can use. The amount of recommendations and advertisements for products is minimal, and these products are not essential to participate in the workouts the app offers.
