Abstract
e n t a t i o n , and makes use of some shrewd and efficient resources in the caipira's wpresentation. Mazzaropi's film character, Jeca Tatu, belongs to the trickery dialectics proposed by Antonio Candido. Wrth the assurnption oftrickery, Mazzaropi's Jeca appears free from any folkloric representation, because alive, dynarnic and not bound to a frozen image ofthe caipira, in accordance to the occupiers' interests. To trickery, Mazzaropi adds another device: in discourse, Jeca ends up deconstructing the occupier's place of speech, recurring to laughter, and reserving for himself the last word. Mazaroppi's Jeca is, thus, given voice and able to create a resistance place within the game o f social forces.
