Abstract
Abstract The sociology of risk has flourished since the early 1980s. This entry provides a critical review of the key approaches in the sociology of risk: the cultural approach, risk society, governmentality, systems approach, and edgework. In addition to introducing each of these approaches, this review points out some of the common criticisms of each of these approaches and how the state of the art continues to evolve in the face of new sets of risks that continue to emerge.
