Abstract
Abstract: This paper discusses Bud Osborn's poetry collection, hundred block rock, which focuses on the lives of the homeless and disenfranchised in North America. It suggests that postcolonial theories can be fruitfully applied to the study of the North American homeless and indigent population, thereby shedding light on some of the processes through which that population is both constructed by and attempts to redefine its relationship with the hegemonic order that relegates it to a marginal position. Through a discussion of theories of internal colonization, this paper suggests that that term is more correctly applied to the world of the homeless and disenfranchised than to the groups it normally is used to describe. Through an engagement with theories of diaspora, the paper attempts to revise our understanding of this world.
