Abstract
Abstract Samuel Selvon was a major figure of the post‐Windrushgeneration of Caribbean writers. He migrated to London from Trinidad in 1950 and wrote several novels, short stories, radio plays, and nonfiction. Although his work was considered pathbreaking, his talents remained undervalued when compared to other writers who followed him. However, a growing body of criticism now recognizes the complex nature of his engagement with the major issues of black British and postcolonial Caribbean identity such as nationalism, migration, social conflict, unemployment, popular culture, and modernity. Selvon migrated to Canada later and died in 1994 in Trinidad.
