Abstract
Réfléchir sur une identité différenciée expose les chercheurs ne se reconnaissant pas dans cette identité à certains « risques méthodologiques ». L’objectif de cet article est d’aborder deux de ces risques prédominants dans les recherches sur l’identité sourde. Ces risques ont des incidences éthiques et épistémologiques qui impliquent que les chercheurs externes aux communautés identitaires comme celle des Sourds doivent « s’engager » avec les membres de ces communautés et prendre position face aux revendications identitaires de ceux-ci. Le présent article tente d’explorer en quoi le rôle de médiateur est une position mitoyenne qui évite de poser un regard désincarné sur les identités différenciées tout en offrant la possibilité au chercheur de remettre en question les essentialismes propres aux quêtes identitaires telles que celles des Sourds.
