Abstract
SEG's first Student Chapter in Ukraine was founded more than 10 years ago at the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv (later renamed Kyiv University) due in large part to the efforts of Pavlo Gryshchuk, associate professor of geophysics and who remains its faculty advisor. Additional and vital impetus in the chapter's early years came from Michael Burianyk of Shell, who made the students aware of the possibilities to obtain graduate degrees in Canada and other countries and helped “network” beyond their normal connections.
