Abstract
Le stage est un dispositif pédagogique de plus en plus répandu dans l’enseignement supérieur, notamment universitaire, en raison de sa capacité supposée à favoriser la professionnalisation des études et à faciliter la future insertion professionnelle des jeunes diplômés. Cet article s’inscrit dans la logique d’une recherche-action menée depuis 2006 afin de mieux connaître la réalité des stages et de construire des préconisations pour en optimiser l’usage. Après avoir montré les limites d’efficacité du stage comme réponse aux difficultés d’insertion des diplômés qui relèvent d’abord du fonctionnement du système d’emploi et non du système de formation, il décrit les apports potentiels de ces stages en termes de formation, de socialisation et de professionnalisation, puis s’intéresse aux conditions à réunir pour qu’un « bon » stage concrétise ces potentialités tout en mettant en garde contre les risques importants que génère l’actuelle inflation des stages.
