Peu de choses du spectacle du monde chapperont sa rflexion. Il saura scruter, dtailler, envisager, supputer, chafauder des hypothses. S'il aperoit une femme allonge sur une plage, les seins nus, il suspendra son regard dans le vide, en homme discret, courtois, respectueux de l'invisible frontire qui entoure les personnes 2 . Puis il se dira que c'est l un refus de voir, vestige d'une convention sociale qui dcrte illicite la vue d'un sein. Cela est rtrograde et ne le satisfait pas. Au retour de sa promenade, passant devant la plagiste, il affecte donc un autre regard, intgrant le sein dans le paysage, un regard gure plus pesant que celui d'une mouette ou d'un merlan . Mais son regard le laisse insatisfait, car on pourrait penser qu'il ramne la femme au rang du paysage dans lequel il intgre le sein. Il fera donc un troisime passage, et mme un quatrime, pouss qu'il est par son commentaire intrieur. Intrigue par ce passant compulsionnel, la plagiste finit par ramasser sa serviette de bain et quitter les lieux.
