Abstract

Cet article porte un regard critique sur la logique utilitariste qui domine actuellement les conditions humaines et sociales de vie. L’analyse se penche spécifiquement sur les rapports entre cette logique et le champ de l’éducation et plus particulièrement encore les sciences humaines et sociales qui sont largement ostracisées. Après avoir défini ce que sont les sciences humaines et sociales et leurs apports fondamentaux à l’éducation scolaire, nous dégageons deux grandes interprétations du domaine de l’éducation et de ses composantes instruction et socialisation, soit une tendance émancipatrice et une tendance conditionnante et instrumentale. Ces préalables permettent ensuite de considérer la notion d’utilitarisme dans ses li ens avec l’éducation et les sciences humaines et sociales, puis, en s’appuyant sur les travaux de Caillé, de dégager différentes conceptions de l’utilité dont certaines s’opposent à la vision économiciste. En conclusion, nous proposons un certain nombre d’axes et de principes éducatifs qui pourraient soutenir une approche éducative émancipatoire.
