L’entretien qualitatif est souvent conçu comme un moyen de produire un matériel empirique destiné à être analysé. Il est une stratégie, un outil à travers lequel on atteint une ou plusieurs réalités. Dans le cadre de cet article, le moment et le contenu de l’entretien représentent l’objet d’étude lui-même et non pas le véhicule pour y accéder. À partir d’une recherche empirique visant à comprendre les pratiques de policiers et de militaires ayant travaillé pendant trois périodes politiques différentes (dictature, guerre et transition démocratique) en République démocratique du Congo (RDC), cet article analyse la production identitaire des participants au moment de l’entretien par l’entremise de celui-ci. Il explore la manière dont les interviewés démantèlent l’identité stigmatisée et produisent une identité positive à travers des stratégies de représentation de soi.
