Abstract
The CIPHI BC Branch is pleased to provide an update, the first for 2019.The Branch spent considerable time and energy in 2018 focusing on governance items and bringing the organization into compliance with the recently changed provincial Societies Act.Compliance necessitated changes to the Branch's bylaws and constitution, which were passed unanimously at the 2018 Annual General Meeting held in October.The Branch was able to recognize two distinguished individuals with awards in 2018: Timothy Millard, Health Protection Manager with Fraser Health, received the 2018 BC Branch Member of the Year Award, while Dr. James Lu, Medical Health Officer with Vancouver Coastal Health, was the recipient of the 2018 BC Branch Honorary Membership Award.The Branch has seen changes to its Executive Council over the past months, with some new faces joining and contributing their time and energy.Unfortunately, Gordon Moseley had to step away from his role as President of the Branch to focus on a changing position at work and his young family.I have moved into the role of President, and I cannot thank Gordon enough for his commitment to the Branch and the numerous hours he contributed to ensuring its success.Gordon's leadership was instrumental in getting through the aforementioned changes in 2018.The Executive Council does have a few vacancies coming into the new year, and we look forward to recruiting individuals for those positions.We are keen to engage with our colleagues in the Yukon and would love to have at least one Yukon member on our Executive Council!For the months to come, the BC Branch is looking forward to expanding educational offerings to members as well as improving our social media and web presences as a means of better communicating with environmental health professionals and allies in the province.We will also continue to produce our quarterly BC Page Newsletter, which is distributed to membership and posted on the Branch's website, where back issues can be found at http
