Abstract
This book discusses the horned lizards of North America. It examines their characteristics, activity patterns, and adaptations for survival. Horned lizards are represented by the genus Phrynosoma. They can also be found in southwestern Canada, the western United States, and Mexico. Horned lizards are also called “toad-bodied” lizards. They have toad-like characteristics such as having broad bodies, extending their tongues to pick up their prey, and inflating themselves with air when molested. But in spite of these similarities, they are lizards. They have tails, scale-covered bodies, and their eggs are specialized for development on land.
