This is a protocol for a Cochrane Review (Intervention). The objectives are as follows: Primary objective To assess in children with croup evaluated in an emergency department or hospital setting, the effectiveness (measured by croup scores, rate of intubation, and health care utilization such as rate of hospitalizations) and safety (frequency and severity of side effects) of nebulized epinephrine versus placebo. Secondary objectives To assess in children with croup evaluated in an emergency department or hospital setting, the effectiveness and severity of side effects of nebulized epinephrine delivered with intermittent positive pressure breathing (IPPB) versus nebulized epinephrine alone, and to assess the effectiveness and severity of side effects of nebulized racemic epinephrine versus nebulized l‐epinephrine.
