Abstract
Abstract Adult neurogenesis has been found to occur in the olfactory bulb and the hippocampus of all vertebrate species studied but has been most extensively characterized in birds and mammals. Although its function is unknown, neurogenesis is influenced by physical activity, learning, environmental complexity, season and photoperiod, exposure to stress, and experimental brain pathology.
