Abstract
Priming refers to the activation of cognitive constructs that subsequently affect people's judgments and/or behavior. It has two important intersections with personality research. First, priming techniques can be used as a way to manipulate personality temporarily helping to establish causality in personality theory. Second, the personality of the primed individuals can moderate the effectiveness of priming techniques and whether the individuals assimilate or contrast the primed material. Priming research in general has been subjected to some recent criticisms, which also are reviewed and addressed.
