Abstract
Cet article s’interroge sur la compatibilité d’Internet à des fins de recherche qualitative lorsque la thématique touche à l’intimité. Dans le cadre de la lutte contre le sida, les comportements sexuels ont suscité de nombreuses enquêtes quantitatives à visée épidémiologique. L’étude des aspects sociaux du sida a, pour sa part, érigé l’intime en objet de recherche. En matière de relations à caractère homosexuel, l’émergence d’Internet a créé, en précédant la rencontre physique, une extension de l’espace de socialisation regroupant de manière virtuelle des hommes désirant avoir des relations sexuelles avec d’autres hommes. De ce fait, Internet présente un intérêt heuristique à être employé pour mener des recherches qualitatives. En outre, il présente de nombreux avantages en termes d’anonymat, accessibilité et commodité d’emploi. Toutefois, les inconvénients de la méthode ne sont pas à négliger. Les questions d’ordre éthique sont notamment à évaluer.
