Abstract
Obstruction of coronary arteries by atheromatous plaques (accumulation of lipids, calcium deposition, and fibrotic tissue) followed by accumulation of platelets, and finally thrombosis are the causes of most heart attacks and sudden death ( Atherosclerosis/Atheroma ). Chelation, by administering intravenous ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid (EDTA), is a method for clearing atheromatous obstruction of coronary arteries, which is analogous to using Drano to clean obstructed pipes. The treatment costs approximately $4,000 per year, and surprisingly during the 1980s and 1990s, more than half a million patients underwent it in the USA annually. It appears that in Canada, approximately 8% of patients undergoing coronary angiography have tried chelation therapy during the 90s.
