Abstract
This entry explains anti‐racism and its key principles, highlighting the links between race and racism, and social difference (gender, class, sexuality, disability, etc.). Race and racism are intertwined, in that it is race that makes racism real, and the reality of racism lies in its powerful social, material, and political effects, consequences, and manifestations. The anti‐racist struggle attempts to challenge and subvert White power, privilege, and supremacy, and particularly the coloniality of Whiteness. Given European imperial expansion into, and settlements on, Indigenous people's lands globally, our understandings of racism and anti‐racism must be tied to questions of indigeneity, colonialism, and decolonization. Finally, it is maintained that in pursuing anti‐racist work using the self as an entry point, one must engage the “trialectic space” of body, mind, and spirit interconnections and concretely bring experiences of gender, class, sexuality, disability, and race together in understanding everyday social practice and relations.
