L’interculturalité désigne le contact entre acteurs de diverses provenances. Malgré que l’anthropologie ait eu une influence considérable sur la recherche en communication interculturelle, elle s’est toutefois tenue à l'écart de cette discipline. La pensée interculturelle n’a par ailleurs pas de véritable foyer disciplinaire et fait l’objet d’une diversité d’approches, de concepts et de finalité. Trois thèmes sont cependant récurrents à travers les travaux sur les dynamiques interculturelles : la bidirectionnalité, les préjugés et les compétences.
