Abstract
Digital media employs digitization to gather information and process and disseminate texts, sounds, and images. Its technical power contributed to an imaginary of absent social constraints. Social media, social networking, and digital game culture continue to spread enthusiasm for digital media. Yet passions have been tempered by digital media's domestication and integration in ordinary everyday social life. A variety of scholarly paradigms for thinking about the influence of digital media on social interaction have emerged, in which a significant number of social theorists have participated.
