Cet article s’intéresse aux réseaux et frontières entre variétés et à l’éclairage que peut apporter une perspective panlectale, qui va au-delà de la traditionnelle opposition entre milieux où le français est minoritaire et milieux où il est majoritaire. Après une brève présentation de corpus de français nord-américains, dont le corpus FRAN, et des enjeux théoriques autour de leur élaboration, une série de phénomènes morphosyntaxiques ( comme / genre / like ; ça fait que / so / donc / alors ) sont examinés en vue de montrer comment la comparaison avec la variété québécoise peut éclairer la variété acadienne (désinence de la première personne du pluriel ( nous / on / je ) ; alternance avoir / être avec les verbes intransitifs), puis la variété ontarienne ( comme / genre / like ; ça fait que / alors / donc / so ) (section 3). Des notions de porosité des frontières et de réseaux ainsi que de standardisation et de nivellement linguistique sont convoquées pour discuter de la variation entre variétés.
