Abstract
La musicologie et l'histoire de la musique sont-elles condamnes courir derrire la sociologie sur le terrain de l'tude des structures d'encadrement musical ? Dix-huit ans sparent la parution des travaux d'Antoine Hennion, Franoise Martinat et Jean-Pierre Vignolle sur les conservatoires 1 , de la soutenance de la thse d'Emmanuel Hondr sur les succursales du Conservatoire 2 ; le livre tir de la thse de Hyacinthe Ravet sur les musiciennes d'orchestre 3 n'a encore aucun pendant historique ; et Les Mondes de l'harmonie, publi en 2009, investit un champ de recherche qui -hormis les travaux de Philippe Gumplowicz, Jean-Yves Rauline et, plus rcemment, Jrme Cambon 4 -reste un no man's land musicologique. L'initiative de cette recherche est nanmoins mettre au crdit d'une institution situe en dehors du champ de la recherche : la Fdration des socits de musique d'Alsace 5 , qui a charg en 2003 l'Observatoire des politiques culturelles 6 de piloter une tude sur les orchestres d'harmonie de sa rgion.
