Abstract
En novembre 1807, Napolon fit merger ex nihilo un nouvel tat sur le sol allemand. Appel royaume de Westphalie, cet tat n'avait pas d'autres liens avec la Westphalie historique que le nom. Compos d'une multitude de territoires ayant appartenu notamment la Prusse, au Brunswick-Wolfenbttel ou encore la Hesse lectorale, il fut entirement faonn l'image de la France et ceci dans un but bien prcis : il devait servir de modle aux autres membres de la Confdration du Rhin. Le royaume de Westphalie n'tait ni la premire ni la dernire cration tatique de ce genre sur le sol allemand. L'anne prcdente, l'empereur franais avait dj fond le Grand-Duch de Berg sur la rive droite du Rhin. En 1810, il procdera la cration du Grand-Duch de Francfort.
