En novembre 1807, Napoléon fit émerger ex nihilo un nouvel État sur le sol allemand.Appelé royaume de Westphalie, cet État n'avait pas d'autres liens avec la Westphalie historique que le nom.Composé d'une multitude de territoires ayant appartenu notamment à la Prusse, au Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel ou encore à la Hesse électorale, il fut entièrement façonné à l'image de la France et ceci dans un but bien précis : il devait servir de modèle aux autres membres de la Confédération du Rhin.Le royaume de Westphalie n'était ni la première ni la dernière création étatique de ce genre sur le sol allemand.L'année précédente, l'empereur français avait déjà fondé le Grand-Duché de Berg sur la rive droite du Rhin.En 1810, il procédera à la création du Grand-Duché de Francfort.2 De ces trois nouveaux États, le royaume de Westphalie est celui qui a suscité le plus d'intérêt dans le domaine de la recherche historique.Grâce aux événements culturels
