Abstract
Safe space has been used by human geographers writing in the subdisciplines of feminist, queer, critical, and health geographies. Until recently, the term was rarely defined but instead used loosely to refer to physical locations where individuals and groups could go to be free from physical harm and harassment, and safe in self‐expression. The term has recently received more sustained attention, with efforts to critique and reconceptualize its meaning.
