Abstract
The treatment of advanced renal cell carcinoma (RCC) has evolved over the past 10 years, largely owing to the development of agents targeting VEGF. This has been possible mainly due to the increased understanding of the pathogenesis and biology of clear-cell RCC. One active regimen for such patients is the combination of bevacizumab and IFN-α. This chapter will examine the biological and clinical evidence for the activity of bevacizumab in RCC. The relevant clinical trials will be addressed, as well as potential toxicities seen with this therapy. The current role of VEGF inhibitors in the current treatment of metastatic RCC is also reviewed.
