The cover illustration shows choroidal rupture and retinal pigment epithelial healing with fundus photography and OCT, as described by Shin et al. in the electronic issue. The Finnish national guidelines on wet AMD are described by Tuuminen et al. Thykjær et al. in Odense conclude that time spent outdoors and not necessarily physical activity protects against myopia progression. Chan et al. in Hong Kong find no consensus on the use of corneal cross-linking with refractive procedures. Eloranta and Flack in Oulu find postoperative visit 1 month after uneventful cataract surgery to be unnecessary, but indicated in complicated and high-risk cases. Johansson in Linköping finds similar visual outcome and posterior capsule opacification with two types of acrylic IOLs. Kvannli and Krohn in Norway recommend treat-and-extend over pro re nata treatment regimen for anti-VEGF injections in wet AMD. Clemens et al. in Germany recommend monthly ranibizumab for vascular pigment epithelial detachments. However, pigment epithelial tears remain a risk. Jensen et al. in Denmark and Ireland found that hyperthermia leads to improved visual acuity and dilated retinal vessels, suggesting increased metabolic activity. Abu El-Asrar et al. in Saudi Arabia and Belgium suggest that matrix metalloproteases are involved in pathophysiology of proliferative diabetic retinopathy. Schatz and Khan in Saudi Arabia and Sweden describe genetics in familial exudative vitreoretinopathy. Eibenberger et al. in Austria find OCT to reliably differentiate between retinoschisis and retinal detachment. Inner and outer layer breaks are typically seen in retinoschisis. Møller et al. in Denmark found diurnal protein rhythms in mouse retina without rods and cones. Cabrerizo et al. in Denmark, the Netherlands and Spain found lipid profiles in aqueous humour to be different in Fuchs endothelial dystrophy compared with healthy subjects. Gruenert et al. in Germany identify donor-related risk factors for bacterial contamination in corneal donor tissue. Papadopoulou et al. in Sweden stress that uveitis develops early in the clinical course of juvenile idiopathic arthritis. Pircher et al. in Switzerland and the USA cast doubt on earlier studies that correlate translaminar pressure differences between cerebrospinal pressure and IOP in normal tension glaucoma. Rao et al. in India correlate structural damage in glaucoma with pupillography amplitude. Cho et al. in Korea recommend combined laser iridotomy and iridoplasty over laser iridotomy alone in angle closure glaucoma. Reis et al. in Brazil and Canada found good reproducibility on OCT analysis of Bruch's membrane openings and related factors and find this to correlate well with retinal nerve fibre layer changes in glaucoma. Jung et al. in Korea report less deformable corneas in glaucoma patients. Lee et al. in Korea found more vascular and metabolic comorbidities in open-angle glaucoma patients with low IOP. Doozandeh et al. in Iran found different corneal biomechanics in unilateral congenital glaucoma. Shin et al. describe retinal pigment epithelial wound healing after choroidal rupture. They contribute the cover photograph. Hu et al. in Taiwan found no association between coronary heart disease and AMD. Tiglner et al. in Germany and Brazil found macular cystic changes to predict recurrence of macular oedema in BRVO patients. Koh et al. in Singapore and India found reduced choroidal vascularity index in AMD patients, but no change in choroidal thickness. Gozawa et al. in Japan found smaller gauge vitrectomy produces less conjunctival scarring. Schwartz et al. in Tel Aviv found no effect of eplerenone in CSR. Sung et al. in Korea find anterior segment OCT useful for punctal anatomy. Chun et al. in Korea describe a novel method for analysis of eye lid images. Sankaridurg et al. in Australia, China and the USA confirm that noncycloplegic refraction in children overestimates myopia, especially in hyperopic and emmetropic eyes. Bignami et al. in Italy successfully tested a neurokinin-1 receptor antagonist against corneal neovascularization in mice. Cantemir et al. in Romania describe iontophoretic corneal cross-linking, which is as good as epithelium off cross linking. Rim et al. in Korea found considerable stroke risk in patients with isolated cranial nerve palsies. Kusabara and Kasahara in Brazil used cyanoacrylate glue to stop leaks in glaucoma drainage tubes. Kim and Kang found considerably increased glaucoma risk in patients with diabetes in Korea. Cennamo et al. in Italy imaged hamartoma of retina and RPE with multimodal imaging. Bar-Or et al. in the USA found danazol (a synthetic steroid used for endometriosis) and renin-angiotensin inhibitors improve vision and structure in DME. I hope this issue of Acta provides pleasant reading in the dark evenings ahead.
