Abstract
L’économie du Canada a enregistré un taux de croissance global de 39 % entre 1990 et 2002 (malgré le ralentissement économique qui a coïncidé avec la récession mondiale en 2001) et sa population s’est accrue de 13 % pour atteindre 31 millions d’habitants aujourd’hui. Le PIB par habitant est l’un des plus élevés des pays de l’OCDE. Avec la libéralisation des échanges, l’économie du Canada est devenue plus axée sur l’exportation et plus étroitement liée à celle des États- Unis ; les États-Unis absorbent actuellement trois quarts des exportations canadiennes et sont à l’origine de deux tiers de ses importations. L’exploitation des ressources naturelles continue d’apporter une contribution importante à l’économie du Canada. L’agriculture, la foresterie et la pêche représentent 13.6 % du PIB.
