Abstract
Abstract Anorexia nervosa (AN), bulimia nervosa (BN), and binge eating disorder (BED)—the commonly recognized eating disorder (ED) variants—are all characterized by abnormal thoughts and behaviors surrounding eating, weight, and body image. AN is defined by an intense fear of weight gain, leading to caloric restraint and abnormal thinness. BN occurs in relatively normal‐weight or overweight individuals who display recurrent eating binges followed by such compensations as self‐induced vomiting, laxative misuse, fasting, or intensive exercise. The most widely known of other ED variants is BED, which involves regular eating binges without compensatory behaviors.
