Abstract
El proceso de legitimación de la psiquiatría como especialidad médica en España comenzó a desarrollarse en la década de los años veinte gracias al interés de una generación de jóvenes médicos que se habían formado en la tradición de la medicina de laboratorio con Ramón y Cajal. Miguel Prados Such, malagueño de nacimiento pero formado como médico en la Universidad Central de Madrid, ha sido más conocido por ser hermano del poeta Emilio Prados que por sus propios logros en el ámbito científico, a pesar de sus numerosas publicaciones y su intensa actividad asociativa. Tras su exilio a Canadá al terminar la Guerra Civil española, el rastro de este investigador se diluye en nuestro país. El objetivo de este trabajo es poner en valor la figura de este médico, mostrar sus aportaciones al mundo de la medicina mental, resaltar su interés por reformar la institución psiquiátrica de la Beneficencia en Málaga, además de haber sido reconocido en Canadá como uno de los psiquiatras más directamente implicados en la difusión y organización de las sociedades psicoanalíticas desde los años cuarenta.
