Abstract
Abstract This entry provides a brief overview of the conceptual, empirical, and clinical components of the cognitive therapies, collectively referred to as the cognitive behavioral therapies. Particular emphasis is placed on the more prominent cognitive restructuring therapies. Next, an overview of other specific cognitive therapies is provided, followed by a brief focus on some approaches believed to be logical extensions of the basic cognitive therapy framework. The empirical status of the cognitive therapies is then summarized. The entry concludes with a discussion of future research directions.
