Experimental design as part of the simulation modeling process is discussed from a manufacturing perspective. It is noted that statistically designed experiments can be used to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of experimentation with systems, real-life or simulated. This technique, coupled with simulation modeling, provides a systematic and scientific approach to system analysis. The use of designed experiments as part of the simulation project methodology in many large-scale projects is discussed. This has helped to reduce the number of simulation runs needed to arrive at a given level of understanding of the system, as well as to provide a structure for the learning process.< <ETX xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">&gt;</ETX>
