Abstract
Le travail de recherche de l’ethnographe consiste entièrement en un exercice de sens tant dans sa relation avec les « autres » qu’avec lui-même, les deux sujets étant producteurs de sens et engagés dans un type de pratique communicative qui rend possible un horizon de compréhension commune. Ce type d’affirmation nous introduit pleinement dans le caractère herméneutique présent dans la description ethnographique (Laplantine, 1996) où émerge une série d’interrogations liées aussi bien à la singularité de la compréhension qu’à des « niveaux de signification » ou aux possibilités de cette « interprétation ». C’est précisément sur ces aspects que nous voulons nous arrêter ici. Nous les analyserons à partir de la perspective herméneutique de Paul Ricoeur, dont nous prendrons en compte plus particulièrement la proposition herméneutique appelée de la « voie longue » et la position quant au « conflit des interprétations ». « La vocation essentielle de l’anthropologie interprétative n’est pas d’apporter une réponse à nos questions les plus profondes, mais de nous permettre d’accéder à des réponses données par d’autres, qui gardaient d’autres moutons dans d’autres vallées et de nous permettre de la sorte de les inclure dans le registre consultable de ce qui a été dit par l’homme » (C. Geertz, 1973).
