[10025-68-0] Se2Cl2 (MW 228.83) InChI = 1S/Cl2Se2/c1-3-4-2 InChIKey = VIEXQFHKRAHTQS-UHFFFAOYSA-N Physical Data: mp −85 °C; bp 127 °C (733 mm) with partial decomposition;1 it exists in a temperature-dependent equilibrium with other selenium chlorides (SeCl2 and SeCl4), chlorine and elemental selenium.2, 3 Solubility: soluble in dry chloroform and carbon disulfide. Form Supplied in: reddish-brown oily liquid. Preparative Methods: the reagent is commercially available and a detailed procedure for its preparation has been reported.1 Purification: shake with fuming sulfuric acid until no green colour is observed, then dry over anhydrous BaCl2 and filter through a fritted glass funnel while protecting from moisture.1 Handling, Storage, and Precautions: moisture-sensitive, incompatible with oxidants, malodorous, toxic; store in sealed glass ampoule; use in a well-ventilated fume hood and avoid contact with skin.
