Abstract
The Blickling Homilies, 18 anonymous Old English homilies preserved in Princeton University Library, Scheide MS 71, constitute one of the earliest collections of vernacular preaching texts from Anglo‐Saxon England. The Blickling manuscript was written in an unknown scriptorium c. 1000, but the composition of many of the homilies, the work of multiple authors, may pre‐date the English Benedictine reform of the late tenth century, thus representing an earlier preaching tradition and religious culture than that attested by most extant Old English homilies, including those of Ælfric and Wulfstan.
