Cette contribution se donne pour objectif de démontrer la pertinence et les enjeux de la recherche qualitative d’orientation psychanalytique et ce, à partir de la présentation d’une recherche internationale portant sur l’augmentation des marques corporelles auto-infligées et des pratiques de l’excès dans notre modernité. La perspective qualitative adoptée dans cette recherche permet l’analyse des liens entre les dimensions collectives – lien social – et la position du sujet – singularité et subjectivité –. Il s’agit de montrer le rapport de ces pratiques de marquage corporel avec des modalités du lien social contemporain ainsi que la variabilité des fonctions du marquage corporel dans l´économie psychique individuelle.
