La spécificité de la guerre ibérique parmi les campagnes napoléoniennes est soulignée par de nombreux acteurs de ce conflit, elle l'a ensuite été par les historiens en raison de son importance dans la chute de l'Empire. C'est une autre approche de cette guerre qui est tentée ici. Il s'agit de comparer les visions de l'ennemi à partir des récits de combattants et plus particulièrement des mémoires de militaires français et britanniques présents dans la péninsule. Quelles sont les images de « l'autre » développées par les militaires des deux nationalités ? Comment sont perçus les Espagnols et les Portugais par ces combattants ?
