Abstract
N. Catherine Fraser is an artist, an art therapist in private practice, and a public health nurse with the Vancouver Island Health Authority in Duncan, British Columbia, Canada. This painting, The Market, was part of a project, Art and Healing: People Helping People, that Fraser began to celebrate the 1912 founding of the Registered Nurses Association of British Columbia. The painting depicts a public health nurse (standing figure) in a Vancouver market, where the nurse often taught patients about nutrition and lifestyle issues. Fraser writes, “I was on a walkabout in the Chinatown area and was attracted to the market's energy. It was a foggy day, and the mandarin orange awnings and lettering stood out against the grey sky.” For more on Fraser, see On the Cover, page 37.
