Abstract
Picture Hampson-Russell's Calgary boardroom and the midyear meeting of the Global Affairs Committee on 13–14 March 2006. There was no one under 40; all were male (except two SEG staff members) and predominantly Euro-American. There were no starry-eyed radicals, no representatives of the oppressed masses. On the contrary, we were all representatives of big oil and their capitalist running dog lackeys. We were comfortably affluent, upper-middle class and painfully establishment. And yet, it seems, the room was full of radicalism and rampant revolution. Funny, but it just seemed like common sense at the time.
