L'ouvrage recense les actes du colloque international et interuniversitaire Rorientations des empires et nouvelle colonisation qui a eu lieu du 16 au 18 juin 2011. La premire de couverture reprend l'iconographie choisie pour illustrer ces journes d'tudes. Ce colloque est le fait d'une association entre diffrentes universits et centre de recherches. Il a t organis sous le patronage de l'Universit Paris 1 Panthon-Sorbonne (Bernard Gainot), avec la coopration de l'Universit Paris VIII (Marie-Jeanne Rossignol et Claire Bourhis-Mariotti) et le soutien de l'Association pour l'Etude de la Colonisation Europenne (APECE) prside par Marcel Dorigny.
