Abstract
Our Future as History Nous, membres de l'I.B.S. et plus généralement des sociétés savantes et professionnelles, vivons actuellement des heures exaltantes, face aux défis à relever. Il s'agit pour nous d'organiser et de planifier activement l'avenir, et de considérer celui‐ci comme de l'Histoire future. «Notre futur, c'est de l'Histoire»: ce qui est à venir devient le présent et le présent devient Histoire. A cet effet, je reprendrai et développerai les thèmes déjà identifiés lors de mon discours présidentiel de Montréal: je présenterai brièvement l'état de notre organisation ainsi que ses initiatives récentes, et j'anticiperai à partir de là sur les besoins en termes d'essor de nos activités présentes et de création de nouvelles activités. C'est par ces actions que nous garantirons l'avenir que nous appelons de nos vœux, et par là même que nous laisserons à nos successeurs un héritage dont nous pourrons être fiers.
