Cet article propose une lecture attentive aux perturbations qui agitent les univers de quatre ouvrages de Lise Tremblay. Parfois destructeurs, parfois libérateurs, ces bouleversements donnent lieu à une mise en évidence des résistances associées aux discours et aux valeurs des lieux, et en particulier des lieux régionaux. Dans La héronnière , la perturbation semble provenir de l’extérieur, des « étrangers » : les femmes du village émigrent vers la ville alors même que les néoruraux semblent prendre possession des lieux. Dans La soeur de Judith , la maison familiale et son quartier résidentiel forment un espace discursif clos dominé par un régime de valeurs nourri au commérage superstitieux, à la bigoterie et à la honte, univers dont la narratrice adolescente est sur le point de s’extraire. Chemin Saint-Paul propose quant à lui une archéologie des traumatismes intergénérationnels familiaux par laquelle la narratrice réconcilie son exil géographique avec sa venue à l’écriture. Une sorte d’apaisement accompagne enfin la résolution du conflit central du roman L’habitude des bêtes , alors que les résistances ataviques cessent de percevoir la norme extérieure, « étrangère » aux valeurs du locus , comme une source de perturbations à combattre.
