Abstract The classical Pareto distribution of the first kind has density function of the form 1–( x /σ) −ν . Pareto distributions of the second, third, and fourth kind involve extra parameters. The second kind arises as a gamma mixture of exponential distributions, and has been used in survival analysis. A multivariate generalization is described.
